- A squeaking toilet seat can be an annoyance.
- Squeaking usually results from loose toilet-seat nuts, and if they become too loose, they can cause an accident in the bathroom.
Close the toilet-seat lid and locate the two bolts that hold it onto the back of the toilet seat. The bolts may be obscured underneath caps; pry them up using the blade of a standard screwdriver.
Feel the bottom of the toilet bowl for the nuts that secure the toilet-seat bolts.
Hold the nuts with a pair of pliers and turn the bolts from the top using a large standard screwdriver. Turn the bolts clockwise to tighten. Do not overtighten the bolts, especially if they are plastic, or you may crack them.
Lubricate the hinges of the seat with a spray lubricant. The lubricant will eliminate friction, which can cause squeaking.
