The atmosphere was celebratory. Michelle Slater, Spielworks Media’s marketing executive, had her phone glued to her ear. It was obvious that something quite special was going down at the Spielworks Media studios in Westlands.

As the evening light faded, giving way to night, flashy cars started streaming into Park Field Place. Media personalities and guests dressed to the nines emerged. Among them were entertainers including Nameless, Citizen TV sports news anchor Waihiga Mwaura, socialites and corporate partners represented by the likes of Laura Walubengo of DSTV.

The elevators opened up to a vibrant reception on the Sumu La Penzi foyer lined with Africa Magic Swahili banners in the background. They checked in, posed for pictures, waved and mingled. Purple was the theme of the night and it added a touch of elegance. Two big screens sat on each corner of the lobby and it was clear the show was ready to roll.

Dorothy Ghetubba, the CEO of Spielworks Media, welcomed the guests and introduced the cast. She thanked cast and crew for all the effort that was put into the making of the thrilling TV drama. It was a moment of exhalation for the entire Sumu La Penzi family. After 3 tedious months of production, marked by a litany of Murphy moments, they finally had something to showcase and the relief was shared all round.
The premier episode of Sumu La Penzi played out on the screens and had the guests captivated for the next half hour. It is always hilarious watching the cast watch themselves on TV. The Oscar’s moment with Ama got the guests cracking up and Eva (Avril) had many men in audience fixated.

As the screening play out, shutter sound of paparazzi cameras kept going. Everyone posed, even the photo phobic. Later on at around 9pm, guests began to file out at their own pleasure all geared up the premiere at 8pm on Africa Magic Swahili 17th September 2013.
Tune in to Africa Magic Swahili at 8 pm every Monday and Tuesday to watch the captivating Swahili drama Sumu La Penzi.
